Dig Deep for The Nuggets of God's Word

Living in the state with the only diamond mine, it’s always in the news when someone finds a sparkling gem. Most recently a slightly over 5 carat diamond was found by a 12 year old boy from North Carolina. The finder of the larger diamonds gets to name it and the boy gave it the same “God’s Glory”.

Most people who arrive at the mine are surprised that it’s really just a field of black dirt. The ones who wish to find a precious or semi-precious gem must sit out in the weather and break up clods, look closely for the bits of wonder and sift through a lot of everyday soil.  In the winter it’s cold work. In the summer it’s hot work. In the spring it’s often wet work. You’re exposed to the elements and you sit in the dirt.

Still, if one looks hard enough and long enough they will find something worth carrying home with them. But it does not come easy. Diamonds don’t just sit on the surface and sparkle. But once the work of obtaining the jewel is done it can be made into something beautiful to adorn the owner.

God speaks to my heart. God’s Word is full of diamonds. Every single page contains precious jewels of truth for us to obtain and enjoy. These jewels make us what we can’t be on our own – shining examples for the world to see. They give us hope when it’s hopeless. Light when it’s dark. Love when we don’t want to love or we feel unloved. They give us beauty in our lives instead of ashes of remorse and regret.  These jewels, nuggets of the Word, when worn properly showcase the Lord in our lives and cause Him to stand out in everything we do and everywhere we go.

God speaks again. Often we are so busy digging in the world’s dirt that we have no room for God’s jewels. You won’t find a single precious stone in the world’s field. Yet that’s where most people go for their daily needs, to find their worth and to seek significance. It’s a potter’s field really – full of nothing, yielding no joy, no peace, no benefits. Yet people spend their entire lives digging there, day after day.  They find themselves with a heavy load of care and nothing really to show for it but a bent over life.

Where have you been digging? What have you been finding?

Oh beloved, run into God’s field of grace! In it you will find everything you need!  There’s a fountain of life giving restoration!  There’s a banquet table of His love spread out for you to partake of often. And as you sift through His Word, you will find hope, peace, joy. You will unearth the answers to your questions and the roadmap for your plans. You’ll find your beauty will be enhanced as you wear His Word and live in the light of it. God knows your hurts, your disappointments; He knows you may have been left in the dirt to seek His face all alone. But beloved, it’s worth it. For you will find the treasure the world seeks after in everything they do. You will find the Lord Himself and He is your keeper, your maker, your sustainer, your King.

All you have to do is leave the potter’s field and go into the diamond mine of God’s Word. There you will become the richest, most bejeweled person in the world – and God created it all for you so that you won’t have to just exist but you can sparkle everywhere you go and in every situation. God loves you and He’s for you so dig until you find what you need!

Psalm 119:72 The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

Psalm 119:11 I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

Psalm 119:25 I lie in the dust; revive me by Your word.

Psalm 119:37 Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through Your word.

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

I John 1:7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.
