May Your Expectations Grow Higher

May Your Expectations Grow Higher

When our kids were little we would pack our bags, load up the ice chest with cheap drinks and bologna sandwiches and head for parts known and unknown. We loved to travel back roads and hike waterfalls and enjoy nature. It was an inexpensive plan that brought much pleasure. Because our expectations were high, the kids caught the fever as well. Wildernesses turned into well-known areas of joy as we visited. One of our favorite getaways was Albert Pike, which Danny and I had discovered in our dating years. Later, when our kids were in college, they showed the area to their friends who loved it as well. Our expectations of fun caught our kids on fire and then they in turn caught their friends on fire with their own expectations. Many good memories still linger in our hearts of the fun we had there and other places like that.
God speaks to my heart: I want your expectations of Me to be higher. It requires no extraordinary expense to live in Me. A simple trip to the Word of God, prayer and faith has given you an enjoyable life in Me. But now I AM calling you to reach higher in your expectations. Up to now you have only desired the basics to make it through. But you are going to need more in order to scale the wilderness ahead. You have not needed stronger faith or better equipment so far, but you will need it. You’ve met with obstacles and you’ve done alright. But the area I AM taking you to in the future will require otherworldly equipment, fresh from the Holy Spirit into your heart and mind and spirit. Don’t fear what’s ahead, but be prepared to grow in expectation.
Oh beloved, contentment in God is crucial. But even in the contentment of your circumstances God is more. Wildernesses abound. You may be going through a wilderness right now. You didn’t plan this trip not do you want to continue. Regardless, the only way out, the only way through, is to grow in expectation of what God can do. You are beyond your physical, emotional and spiritual strength. It’s time to pick up more equipment in Christ. God is your sole provider of peace in the process of rising higher in faith. He is your only available source to overcome the wilderness and find joy and peace in the trip. You will get through it, but only by letting Him lead and allowing Him to teach you more about Himself and your faith in the process.
God loves you and He’s for you and because of that you can expect to find power and wisdom for the road ahead. Whatever you have encountered, He will strengthen you and you will grow in grace and knowledge as together you go beyond the natural to the supernatural in the days ahead.
Psalm 62:7 On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
Philippians 1:20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.
Psalm 37:39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble.
I Corinthians 1:25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
Psalm 68:35 O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary. The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people. Blessed be God!
